Go to this link and follow the instructions to install MacFuse, NTFS-3g, and iMount. You will not need to use terminal at all, as iMount takes care of it. Just drag your NTFS volume in Finder to the iMount icon, and after about 15 seconds, the drive re-appears as a writeable volume in OS X.

iFuse is only useful if you want to mount the device manually and if you do not have GNOME and GVFS installed. Otherwise it is useless since GNOME's GVFS supports accessing the device directly and creates a fuse mount in ~/, too.
